Cannonau is the red wine that, more than any other, immediately brings to mind Sardinia, its ancient traditions, and its welcoming hospitality. The cultivation of this grape variety is widespread throughout the “island, but finds its ideal” environment in the more inland areas. Its origins are not known with certainty, but its introduction is believed to date back to the period of Spanish rule. Over thirty percent of Sardinian vineyard area is occupied by Cannonau, which gives the wines a typical and particular finesse of taste and aroma that varies from area to area. Its color has shades ranging from more or less intense ruby red, tending towards “orange with aging, with” a good structure and taste-olfactory sensations that recall, in different expressions, flowers or red fruits, which shift towards more mature notes of jam and warm spicy nuances in the reserve or fortified wine types.
